Mycoremediation
Paul Stamets invented the term "mycoremediation," he passionately describes it as the incredible use of fungi to tackle pollution! These amazing organisms can break down or absorb contaminants such as petroleum products, pesticides, and heavy metals. Fungi can also filter pollutants from water and even develop unique strains that control pests, providing eco-friendly alternatives to older, harmful methods.

The Fungus Among Us
Imagine arriving at a shopping center car park to notice a cluster of impossibly large mushrooms hiding in the bushy borders circling the parking area, some nearly two feet high with caps up to a foot across.
You leave the car behind and wander towards the shops. All of a sudden, you come across another cluster of these bizarre mushrooms. These ones are larger still and seem to be swallowing filthy rubbish; plastic bottles and other debris are actively being consumed by these fungi.

You walk only a few steps more before you find yourself standing imobile, jaw slack and dangling. A short distance away there is a cluster of gargantuan mushrooms six feet tall caps at least four feet across. There is no doubt about it these massive shrooms are digesting filth and rubbish, plastic bottles are melting away into there flesh before your eyes. What are these giant things doing? Where have all they all come from? The car park has been taken over by mystical waste eating mushrooms.
